gallidon is brilliant!

while stumbling in firefox today (or maybe yesterday), I came across the Runes of Gallidon. I read through the concept overview, the artisan stuff, some of the wiki, the mythos etc and was impressed. what a cool concept, i thought, this would be perfect for a different way to express yourself! then i thought ya... but would there be any good material here? really? maybe its just people like me who get excited about this sort of thing.

i'm so excited by the quality and passion of the material submitted for this world. admittedly, i havnt read everything, but i love the way this world is flushing itself out through so many voices.

you have to understand that recently, as a young adult, i've found myself straying from the sort of pursuits i followed when i was younger. role playing seems rather childish (and who do you do it with when your in your mid twenties??), mmorpgs are expensive and i just didnt get into WoW when it came out, and i've never been quite talented enough or committed enough to be a good artist, or a great author. recently, ive picked up embroidery, and knitting while i work an IT job. all this being said, the sense of community i get from your posts and written exchanges, and the talent and breadth of all your work (all forms- written, drawn, programmed etc) has really given me a renewed sense of drive and passion.

i just wanted you guys to know that, whether you know it or not, you are inspiring people. congratulations, keep up the good work!

love

p.s - you also one a spot in my bookmarks toolbar! a truly high honor.

Thanks for taking the time to post and share your comments. We loved building this world, and we look for any excuse to spend time in it.

Hang on to that excitement/inspiration; it would be a shame if the world missed out on your creativity!

Brilliant

Thank you very much. We've just opened the doors wide and we're hoping people are excited by the idea of collaboration on this scale and this project.

Quick side note - embroidery & knitting ARE arts... :-) So you're already exercising the right side of your brain. Don't hesitate to send something in should the mood strike you.

We post new Works every week. I hope you'll keep checking back in to share your opinions and your voice.

Your enthusiasm for the site is most contagious. I am working on my first written story for Gallidon and hope it lives up to what is written here already.

Thanks for the great comments about RoG.

On a side note, when you are comfortable with the knitting thing, I encourage you to try spinning your own yarn! Spindles are inexpensive, easily portable and very fun. Nothing like knitting with a truly unique yarn of your own making.

I just found this site

I just found this site yesterday! and much like you i absolutely love the concept. ive always had a bit of a fantasy about writing in a world like this, but the bigger worlds like the forgotten realms world, their owners are kinda picky lol. but im an aspiring author, and im learning to draw. I really do have faith this place will help foster my creativity, and generally just be fun to be involved with

Welcome Epoch1984

One of the goals of this site is for artisans to encourage & help each other become better at their chosen crafts, and have fun doing it!

I hope you enjoy what you've seen so far and are interested enough to jump in with your thoughts, opinions and creative endeavors.

lol my head is swimming with

lol my head is swimming with some ideas. ideas for stories ideas for drawings(not that im any good at drawing lol still learning) actually ive always wanted to learn to draw maps, and i think this will give me an opportunity to learn to do so especially since it seems that the cities and land scape has not been fleshed out with alot of detail. but i gotta say, the world map is beautiful!

also i was pondering something, the site says that i still own everything that i publish on here, even tho its shared and built upon by other. i was curious if i created a novel, or anthology of short stories under this universe, would i be able to have it published with the permision of the site owners?

Head swimming - remember to breathe!

If you create a novel, series of maps, an anthology of stories, illustrations, and maps - YOU own it. So naturally you can publish it. And charge money for it.

On a personal note, Artisans making money from their creations is kind of a fond goal of mine... :-)

You will be sharing the Ideas with the other Artisans so that everyone can continue to collaborate & build on the world, but your actual Work remains yours. A more complete explanation of how it works can be found here.

I browsed through here from Facebook the other day. I'm impressed at the world setting and admire the vision of the stewards. I've just finished editing the rough draft of my first novel (a historical fantasy set in an alternate turn of the 17th century). But reading a few of the submissions and browsing over the map is kicking around some ideas.

Thanks for sharing this. Bookmarked and intrigued. :)

Hi RangerSG,
Thanks for the feedback - always nice to hear we aren't crazy. I hope you are intrigued enough to add your voice to Runes of Gallidon.

Good luck with the first novel - that's a rich period in history, ripe for storytelling - sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Oh, wait a minute...

I didn't say you weren't crazy.

Just no crazier than anyone else writing. :P

Tony? Yes, he's quite mad. Shame, really, but he's harmless. Mostly, that is.
